My Counselling Approach

I qualified as an integrative therapist. This means that I have knowledge of a number of different therapeutic approaches, including person centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). By listening closely to what you say, I can then adapt my approach to you so that we can process things quickly and effectively.

I believe that it does not really matter where we start in a counselling session, we will get to the part that will be helpful for you by helping you to make links between different memories and experiences. The brain is a wonderful thing and will make those connections for you. We just have to facilitate its progress.

I also believe that there is a lot of value in looking at things creatively. Often people will see images or feel particular sensations in their body when talking about things. Working with these images and sensations in a creative way is often both helpful and easier than exploring the detail of the memory itself, particularly when this is traumatic for the individual.

Finally, as an individual, I appreciate the joy of humour in relationships and whilst we will talk appropriately about serious and difficult situations you may have experienced, sometimes there can also be learning from funny incidents that you remember. I believe that in therapy, we work with everything you want to bring. If it is something that you have brought to mind, there will a reason for that and it is important that we explore it.

If you feel that this sort of approach might work for you, then please do get in touch via my contact form or by email at jroddy@answersconsulting.com.
