Counselling

I have been a counsellor/psychotherapist for nearly 15 years and have experience in a wide range of topics, working both short and long term with clients. I have also worked successfully online and by telephone with clients who live too far away to travel.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their ethical framework. If you would like to see a copy of this, you can find it here.

Counsellor Training

I have developed a practice model and competency framework for working with client experiences of domestic abuse, which I now offer training through my company, Dactari (Domestic Abuse Counselling, Training and Research Innovation). I have previously taught counselling trainees and qualified practitioners within Higher Education and all training meets the standard for University delivery. This training is suitable for all counsellors who are seeing domestic abuse clients. Details of the training offered are available on the website.

Feedback from participants of the courses is shown on the website, with very high satisfaction rates for the courses delivered.

Counsellor supervision

I offer counselling supervision to qualified practitioners, either online or in-person. I have experience in many work environments and client presentations, with specific expertise in working with abuse. Supervision is very much a team approach with me. Together we address the work you bring, to explore what worked and what other approaches might have been helpful, as well as your own well-being, career aspirations and any continued professional development that might be helpful.

In addition, I offer group supervision for peers or for organisations. Please contact me for more details about how this would work.

Starting Work Together

It is important that we have the right 'fit' when we work together. To facilitate that I offer a free 30-minute session (which can be by telephone) where we can talk about what you want from counselling/supervision and you can ask me any questions you might have about me and/or my practice. Once we have had a chat, we can then decide if we want to work together.

Starting our work together is quite straightforward, by agreeing a time and date that suits us both. For people who live locally, we can meet face to face in my practice room. For those further afield, we can use telephone or a video platform such as Zoom or Teams.

After our initial meeting, I will confirm the details of our first session by email and will also send you a copy of my contract outlining the service and any limitations. These terms are  those included in most counsellor contracts, so no surprises. I will also send you a form to fill in and bring with you which provides some background for me. We will briefly go through this at our first session.
